Academy of the Cross embodies a refreshingly new look to the future. Since this school will bring alive a bold and exciting vision, this unique name has been chosen to reflect such boldness and excitement.

Cross - As a decidedly Lutheran organization, there is no single word more central to our beliefs than the work of Jesus Christ on the cross for us. Since the cross is what draws us to Christ and the cross is what draws us into community with each other, we welcome all to become part of this educational opportunity. Having been healed and nurtured by God's love, it is then from the cross where we are sent out to bring the hope and healing of Jesus Christ to others. It is also to the cross where we return for renewal along the way.

Academy - The word academy is by traditional use associated with secondary education and with schools who specialize in some realm of study. Our specialty is to be a distinctive model of high school excellence in the Lutheran tradition, so the use of this word academy continually reminds us that we are a community seriously dedicated to learning.

Logo's Story - The logo itself depicts the significance of this community drawn together at the foot of the cross of Christ and symbolizes the mission of Academy of the Cross. Individuals, each portrayed by the one small circle at the upper right of the logo, follow a path that brings them with their God-given talents to grow and learn together with others through the opportunities provided by the academy. This growing at the foot of the cross, depicted by three dots each progressively larger than the other, will empower young people to reach their full potential in Christ. Equipped through faith building and learning experiences, each individual is sent out onto their journey of life to be of significant service and positive influence to others. Such is our living of vocation as God has called us.

Green - The use of color in the logo is deliberate. Green symbolizes the developmental growth and harmony of the community of people brought together at the academy. It also helps to portray the hope and healing that is available to us through the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we come together in community at the cross. Part of the energy of green is the ability to sustain change. That is an integral part of our transformation as Christians...God gives us the renewal we need in the challenging places along the way and gives us the courage to adjust and grow as we meet those challenges.

Blue - The color of sky and sea, blue, portrays depth and stability. Often used to symbolize faith, truth, and heaven, it reminds us of the truths of God found in forgiveness won for us by the cross of Christ. Blue is often associated with wisdom, intelligence, and confidence. How fitting it is that when we truly understand how God has created and loved us, we can embrace with confidence our calling to which He sends us in service to one another. Blue also has a calming effect and portrays peace. The grace of God alone is the source of our only real peace as we live our lives and meet our challenges.
